20 years ago I used to love painting "little metal men" and playing the very first edition of what was to become the hugely successful Warhammer 40K game, so recently I decided to revisit my youth. So far this has consisted of going out and buying some minis, and then wonderful-wife going out and buying ALL THE MINIS IN THE WORLD, and a selection of paints and brushes. With a couple of hours each weekend to paint them, this is going to take a while. There they sit in the corner now... looking at me... judging me... Anyway, one thing that I've found motivational is the wealth of pictures and "how to" guides on other painters' blogs, so I decided to post some of my own humble efforts here. Hope you like 'em.

Legion of the Damned - continued

These have been on the to-do list for far too long now, so it's time to get our ghostly, menacing, skulls-and-fire chaps finished. Here's the latest one:

That's two down, three to go.

A quick note on the painting of these chaps - I want the black to be muted and subtle, so I've kept the highlighting very low-key. It's actually zenithal highlighting done with the airbrush, with dark greys, and without any extra edge-highlights added.

    Handy, aren't they? - I use it all the time for lettering as it's a little easier than the brush. Strangely, mine says "water and fade proof" on it, but when I tried to use it to draw the outline for some freehand work, I found that when I started to paint in the colours over the top, the black ink ran into the fresh paint a bit and caused problems. Maybe I'm just not leaving it long enough to dry... No patience.
